Delta Hospital, March 2010

Weddles have been asked to prepare a concept design report for a private cardiac hospital on the outskirts of Shanghai, China. Our scheme focuses on providing a perimeter path which allows a round site walk to be followed accessing a series of smaller spaces, including sensory gardens, riverside walk and memorial garden. A central courtyard surrounded on all sides by patient waiting areas will house a water feature and exotic planting. Private gardens on the roof for staff are also a significant element of the scheme. The site is 3.5 hectares and the hospital will accomodate over 200 beds.

Greenwich Winter Garden, February 2010

The Phase 1 (East House) Construction and Planting Contract has been awarded to Tendercare for Avery Hill Winter Garden in Greenwich. The Winter Garden was built in 1890 by Colonel North, an entrepreneur who made his fortune by exporting nitrate fertiliser from Chile to Britian. In the East House our concept is for a Chilean plant collection including species which Colonel North would have included in his collection. The hard landscape of the East house will also be restored with the pond and Galatea sculpture brought back to life.

Nanjing Creative Business Park, June 2009

Weddles have recently completed the Concept Design for a large business park in Nanjing, China. The concept for the project is a number of 'business villages' located around a central green spine. Each village will have a different style and character, from urban lakeside headquarters buildings to smaller artisan units located in parkland. The ecological green corridor is of importance in our design as it connects the adjacent Zhongshang National Park to the west with the Mountains to the east. The budget is estimated at £500M.

China Lecture Series, December 2008

Mike has just returned from a successful lecture tour in China, where he was invited to talk about current ideas in landscape by leaders of the industrial city of Xuzhou. China is facing environment problems as its economy rapidly expands. Weddles saw the opportunity to share experiences and establish links with other professionals in China. With the financial crisis slowing down development in Britain, China may be the only country in the world where the economy will increase next year.

Mike was asked to review landscape issues being faced by an industrial city in China, and present a Vision for Landscape Leading the Way to new development. Mike was invited to meet local leaders and see the challenges for himself, and then went on to deliver a public lecture on how Landscape could be the catalyst to regeneration. The response was exceptional and the lecture was featured on television.
