Schools and Colleges

The landscape experienced during our early years plays an important role in our development.

Weddles have been at the forefront of design of landscape for school and college campuses since 1957. Professor Weddles' contribution to the planning of Liverpool University and its halls of residence made an impression on the current Principal during his university years.

Schoolyard landscape is rarely developed to its maximum potential. Many teachers recognise the potential but do not have the design skills to create a cohesive scheme.

Many schools have unimaginative tarmac playgrounds, or green deserts of mown grass. Typically there is nowhere quiet for those children who don't want to join in with active games. Seating is in short supply. Opportunities for curriculum teaching outdoors are unexploited. If these are familiar problems you will see how a landscape architect can help.

We have worked with a large number of primary and secondary schools, creating the ideal environment for teaching, play and sport. This School Landscape Masterplan is one of our most frequently requested services. We talk to the staff, parents and children and draw up a "wish-list" of possibilities. We discuss opportunities for grants, sponsorship and self-help schemes. Many schools go on to develop their dreams over many years, using the Masterplan as a guide.
